More than 4,000 applicants have applied for nursing and midwifery positions in Taraba State, highlighting intense competition for the 550 vacancies approved by the state government.
The recruitment exercise, currently being conducted by the Taraba State Health Service Management Board in Jalingo, is aimed at strengthening the state’s healthcare workforce.
The Board had opened an online recruitment portal for qualified nurses and midwives, attracting thousands of applications despite the limited number of available positions.
Following the application process, 550 candidates were shortlisted for screening and interviews, which include professional and competency-based assessments designed to identify the most qualified applicants.
Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Garba Danjuma, confirmed that more than 4,000 applications were received through the online portal.
He said the large turnout reflected growing interest in employment opportunities within the health sector and assured applicants that only competent professionals would be selected.
According to him, the recruitment process is intended to address manpower needs and improve healthcare service delivery across the state.
Also speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Budiya Buma, said the exercise aligns with Governor Agbu Kefas’s efforts to revitalise the health sector and enhance access to quality healthcare.
He assured applicants that the recruitment would be conducted transparently and strictly on merit.
The Chairman of the Health Service Management Board, Dr. Ebenezer Apake, explained that the screening and interview process is expected to last between two and three days and is focused mainly on recruiting nurses and midwives.
He noted that successful candidates would be recommended for employment and reaffirmed the Board’s commitment to staff welfare, career development and timely promotions.
The recruitment exercise is expected to boost the state’s healthcare workforce and improve service delivery in health facilities across Taraba.
