Oyo civil servants arrested for diversion of funds

The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) has arrested some officials of the state Ministry of Lands over alleged diversion of government funds.

The OYACA Chairman, Eni Esan, made this known via a statement made available to newsmen on Friday.

Esan said the agency, in carrying out its statutory mandate, investigated the officials (names withheld) for allegedly diverting government funds to personal accounts.

She stated that OYACA, upon completion of an investigation, handed over the workers to the Oyo State Ministry of Justice for prosecution, adding that they were currently standing trial in court.

The chairman noted that the agency also recovered some amount of money paid to some staff of Lagelu Local Government in Oyo State on the illegal sale of government land, adding that the money recovered has been returned to the owner, one Samson Olasunkanmi, who unknowingly bought the illegal land.

OYACA was established by Governor Seyi Makinde-led administration with the mandate to investigate cases of corruption and mismanagement of public funds, among others.

The anti-graft agency, however, lacks the power to prosecute but can hand over any case investigated to the Ministry of Justice for prosecution.
