Oyo govt receives two surveillance aircraft to boost security operations

The Oyo State Government has taken delivery of two surveillance aircraft acquired to strengthen intelligence gathering and enhance security operations across the state.

The aircraft arrived in Ibadan, the capital of Oyo State, on Tuesday, meeting the state government’s pledge that they would be delivered before the end of July 2026.

Confirming the development in a statement, the Oyo State Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, described the arrival as a major milestone in Governor Seyi Makinde’s efforts to improve the state’s security architecture through advanced aerial surveillance.

He recalled that the state government announced the acquisition of the aircraft on July 8, 2025, as part of a broader strategy to equip security agencies with modern tools to tackle rising security challenges.

Oyelade noted that Makinde had disclosed on July 18, 2026, that the aircraft had arrived in Nigeria and were being reassembled at the Nigerian Air Force hangar in Lagos before their final deployment to Oyo State.

According to the commissioner, the successful delivery fulfils the administration’s commitment to residents after it assured them about a week ago that the aircraft would be in the state before the end of July.

The surveillance aircraft are expected to enhance aerial monitoring, improve intelligence gathering and support security agencies, including the Amotekun Corps, in responding more effectively to criminal activities across Oyo State.
