NB trust fund awards scholarship to inspiring young speaker

The Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund (NB/FOETF) has awarded a secondary school scholarship to Ayomide Avose, the student who drew national attention with his keynote address at the 2025 Maltina Teacher of the Year Grand Finale.

Ayomide, a beneficiary of the Slum2School Africa initiative, earned widespread recognition for his confident and articulate presentation at the national event, where he spoke on education despite coming from an underserved community.

The scholarship will cover his tuition and other essential educational expenses throughout his secondary school education. The fund will be administered through Slum2School Africa, which will oversee its implementation, provide academic monitoring and offer psychosocial support to ensure the student’s continued success.

Speaking on the initiative, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, Uzo Odenigbo, said the scholarship reflects the organisation’s commitment to expanding access to quality education and supporting talented young Nigerians from disadvantaged backgrounds.

According to him, investing in students with exceptional potential helps transform lives while contributing to national development by nurturing future leaders.

“Ayomide’s story underscores the importance of creating access to opportunities for young people with evident potential. At the Nigerian Breweries–Felix Ohiwerei Education Trust Fund, we remain committed to advancing educational development and ensuring that talented individuals are not limited by their circumstances. We are pleased to support his secondary education and look forward to his continued growth and achievements,” Odenigbo said.

Also speaking, Hauwa Yahaya, Chief of Staff and Senior Partnership Manager at Slum2School Africa, thanked the Trust Fund for supporting the student and pledged that the organisation would ensure the effective implementation of the scholarship.

She said the partnership would guarantee Ayomide’s access to quality secondary education while providing the academic support and monitoring needed to help him realise his full potential.

Yahaya described the scholarship as a significant investment in the future of a promising young Nigerian and a demonstration of the Trust Fund’s commitment to improving educational opportunities for children from underserved communities.
