Oyo police: We’ve not rescued abducted students, teachers

The Oyo State Police Command has dismissed reports claiming that abducted students, pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area of the state have been rescued, describing the information as false and misleading.

The Oyo State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, made this known in a statement issued on Friday, May 22, 2026.

Olayinka said the victims were still in captivity while security agencies continued intensive operations to secure their safe release and arrest those behind the abduction.

The police spokesman urged residents and members of the public to remain calm and support ongoing rescue efforts rather than spreading unverified information capable of causing panic.

According to him, the circulation of fake news and misinformation could heighten tension and distract security operatives from critical operations aimed at rescuing the victims.

“The abducted students, pupils and teachers in Orire Local Government Area are yet to be released, as intensive efforts by security agencies continue to ensure their safe rescue and the arrest of those responsible for the criminal act,” Olayinka said.

Olayinka assured residents of Oyo State that verified updates would be made available as developments unfold.

He also advised individuals seeking authentic information to contact the Police Public Relations Officer or the Command’s control room through official channels.
