Pastor in court for stealing laptops, phones

A 32-year-old pastor, Emmanuel Anthony, was on Thursday, March 13, 2025, arraigned before the Magistrates’ Court sitting in the Ikeja area of Lagos State for allegedly stealing a woman’s laptops valued at N2.2 million.

Anthony who resides in the Ota area of Ogun State, is standing trial for unlawful invasion and stealing.

The pastor, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The prosecutor, Inspector Innocent Odugbo, told the court that the offences were committed in the Abule Egba area of Lagos on February 24.

Odugbo said the defendant who knew the complainant, Chioma Okeke, from the village came to her house under the pretence of a visit.

He told the court that the complainant left the pastor in the sitting room to get some foodstuffs outside the house.

He added that before the complainant returned, the pastor invaded her room and carted away two laptops, two iPhones, and a cash of N60,000.

The prosecutor said the stolen items were valued at N2,240,000.

Odugbo said the offences contravened Sections 287 and 308 of the Criminals Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The Magistrate, S. O Obasa, thereafter, granted the pastor bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.
