The Bayelsa State House of Assembly has approved the appointment of Pastor Peter Akpe as the deputy governor of the state.
Before he was appointed the deputy governor, Pastor Akpe served as Governor Douye Diri’s chief of staff.
The latest appointment follows the death of the late deputy governor, Dr Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, who died in December 2025 at the age of 60.

Akpe is a former two-term member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly.
He rose through the civil service to the rank of director before moving into senior political roles, including deputy chief of staff and acting chief of staff.
