Former Deputy National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bode George, has criticized demands for the party’s 2027 presidential ticket to be zoned to the North, describing such calls as selfish and manipulative.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Tuesday, George commended the PDP governors and the National Executive Council (NEC) for unanimously zoning the ticket to the South while retaining the party chairmanship in the North.
“At the NEC meeting yesterday (Monday), we agreed to zone the presidential ticket to the South for the next four years to complete the region’s eight-year slot.
“I must emphatically thank all our governors; they are respectable young men,” George said.
He noted that the decision had restored fairness and equity in the party, adding that former members who left were already returning.
On the issue of members who worked against the party in 2023, including the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, George said the PDP would not hastily impose punitive measures.
