The Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Dr. Hadiza Sabuwa Balarabe, has empowered 1,020 women drawn from the 255 political wards of the state.
The Deputy Governor gave out items such as deep freezers, grinding machines, sewing machines and power generating sets to empower the women and lift them out of poverty.
Speaking at the Women Engagement and Empowerment Programme (WEEP) that took place at the Yar’Adua Hall of Mohammed Murtala Square Kaduna, Balarabe said she was motivated to donate the items in order to empower women who are actively involved in politics to enable them to gain financial freedom and make them self reliant.
She urged the beneficiaries not to sell the items but put them to use to support themselves and their families.
Among the beneficiaries are women with disabilities who were given deep freezers each.
