Place holder: Okupe named as Peter Obi’s running mate

Former presidential aide, Dr. Doyin Okupe, has been named as the running mate of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, for the 2023 general election.

Okupe, who is the Director-General of Peter Obi Campaign Organisation, made the disclosure in an interview on Channels Television’s programme, Politics Today, on Friday.

The former presidential aide said his name has been submitted to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as Obi’s running mates for the 2023 presidential election.

It would be recalled that INEC set June 17, 2022, as the deadline for political parties in the country to submit the list of their candidates and running mates (presidential and governorship).

Speaking on Friday, Okupe said he was standing in as Obi’s running mate, adding that discussions are still ongoing to choose a substantive vice presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

“As I am speaking with you, I am the Vice-Presidential candidate of the Labour Party.

“My name has been submitted to INEC and that’s the situation as at today.

“It’s important for us to ensure that all the stakeholders are carried along from the beginning to the end.

“Because of this, I, Dr. Doyin Okupe is standing as the Vice-Presidential candidate,” the former presidential aide disclosed.
