The Plateau Peace Advocates for Good Governance and Social Stability (PPAGGSS) has condemned the recent attack on mourners in Plateau State, describing the incident as barbaric, cruel, and unacceptable.
In a condolence statement issued by its National Coordinator, Ibrahim D. Lengshak, the group said the killing of innocent mourners represents a direct assault on peace and stability in the state, urging swift action to bring the perpetrators to justice.
PPAGGSS called on residents of Plateau State to support the state government and security agencies, particularly the Department of State Services (DSS), in ongoing efforts to track and apprehend those responsible for the attack and other violent incidents in the state.
The group stressed that community cooperation and timely intelligence sharing remain vital in dismantling criminal networks operating within affected areas.
“We strongly condemn this attack on defenseless mourners. It is cruel, inhuman and unacceptable. Plateau people deserve to live in peace without fear of violence and bloodshed,” Lengshak said.
The group specifically referenced ongoing efforts to address insecurity linked to the Angwan Rukuba Palm Sunday attacks and other violent episodes, urging citizens not to shield criminals in any form.
According to PPAGGSS, supporting security agencies with credible information would significantly enhance efforts to combat terrorism and violent crime across the state.
“We urge residents not to shield criminals or terrorists in any guise. This is the time for all law-abiding citizens to stand firmly behind the state government and the DSS by providing credible information that can help dismantle these networks,” the statement added.
The group also called on security agencies to ensure that arrested suspects are properly investigated and prosecuted, stressing that accountability is key to deterring future attacks.
“It is important that perpetrators of these crimes are not only apprehended but fully prosecuted in accordance with the law. This will send a strong message that violence against innocent citizens will not be tolerated on the Plateau,” Lengshak stated.
PPAGGSS further urged residents to avoid retaliatory actions or inflammatory statements capable of worsening tensions in already affected communities.
It also appealed to the Federal Government and relevant security authorities to strengthen intelligence gathering and deploy proactive measures in vulnerable areas to prevent further attacks.
The group extended condolences to families of victims, praying for the repose of those killed and speedy recovery for the injured.
