Plateau indigenes living in Kaduna State have pledged support for Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s re-election in 2027, citing his administration’s development projects and efforts to improve residents’ welfare.
The pledge was made during an appreciation visit by Mutfwang, his deputy, Ngo Josephine Piyo, and other government officials to the community in Kaduna, alongside activities surrounding the flag-off of the APC Presidential Campaign Council in the state.
Addressing the gathering, Mutfwang thanked the community for supporting his emergence as governor in the 2023 election, particularly those who travelled from Kaduna to Plateau to vote for him.
“I am here to express my profound appreciation for the support you gave me during the 2023 election that brought me into office. Your sacrifices, your conviction and your unwavering belief in our vision for Plateau State will never be taken for granted,” he said.
The governor urged the indigenes to remain united and committed to Plateau’s development. He also called on them to support President Bola Tinubu’s re-election bid in 2027, arguing that cooperation between the state and federal governments could accelerate development.
Highlighting his administration’s performance, Mutfwang said road construction and rehabilitation projects were ongoing across the state’s 17 local government areas, with some already completed and commissioned.
In education, he cited a 50 per cent reduction in tuition fees at Plateau State University, increased scholarship opportunities and efforts to secure accreditation for academic programmes across tertiary institutions.
He added that investments in school infrastructure and learning materials were aimed at improving teaching and learning outcomes.
On healthcare, Mutfwang said his administration had invested in medical infrastructure, modern diagnostic equipment, laboratory capacity and the revitalisation of primary healthcare facilities.
He also reaffirmed his commitment to tackling insecurity through improved intelligence gathering, security operations and community-based initiatives in collaboration with relevant agencies.
The governor further highlighted the introduction of the Tin City Metro bus service and other transport initiatives designed to ease movement and reduce transportation costs for residents.
Mutfwang commended Tinubu for approving major road projects affecting Plateau, including the Akwanga–Jos–Bauchi–Maiduguri corridor and the Mararaban Jama’a–Mangu–Kanke–Langtang–Shendam–Ibi road, which he said could improve commerce and expand economic opportunities.
He also pointed to Plateau’s growing political relevance, citing the emergence of Professor Nentawe Yilwatda as APC national chairman and the state’s historical contribution to national party leadership.
Earlier, Deputy Governor Piyo, Secretary to the State Government Samuel Nanchant Jatau and Director-General of the Mutfwang/Piyo Campaign Council, Joseph Ari, commended the community for maintaining its ties with Plateau and urged members to sustain their support for the administration.
The community chairman, John Nanpe, thanked the governor for the visit and pledged continued solidarity and support for his second-term bid.
A community patron, Peter Dasat, also praised the administration’s development efforts, expressing confidence that voters would assess its performance ahead of the 2027 election.
Traditional rulers, women, youths and elders at the gathering reportedly echoed the pledge of support for Mutfwang’s leadership and re-election ambition.
