Police arrest 3 armed robbers, recover guns

The operatives of the Lagos State Police Command have arrested three young men for alleged armed robbery and unlawful possession of firearms.

The command’s spokesman, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed the arrest via a statement issued on Saturday.

Hundeyin said two of the suspects were aged 27, while the other was 23-year-old.

He stated that the suspects were apprehended on Thursday following a tip-off about a robbery at Abijo GRA Junction in Ibeju-Lekki, Lagos.

“The suspects were arrested by officers of Elemoro Division on February 16, 2023, while escaping with their loot after robbing their victim.

“Items recovered from the suspects include two locally-made pistols, one live cartridge, one Tecno Android phone, and one ZAT Android phone,” the police spokesperson said.

Hundeyin noted that two of the suspects were initially arrested but further investigation led to the arrest of the other.

He disclosed that the trio confessed to have robbed at the same spot several times.

The police spokesperson added that the suspects will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Hundeyin said the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Idowu Omohunwa, had assured the residents of the state that the command would do its best to reduce crime and criminality to the barest minimum.
