Police arrest 4 for stealing NNPCL petrol, nab 42 others

The operatives of the Edo State Police Command have arrested four suspects for allegedly stealing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), otherwise known as petrol, from the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) in the state.

The Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, Chidi Nwabuzor, who made this known on Friday, October 6, 2023, disclosed that no fewer than 46 suspects were arrested for various criminal activities in the state in the last one month.

Nwabuzor said 15 suspected cult members were arrested during a raid along Okabere road at Upper Sakponba in Benin, the Edo State capital, on September 19.

The police spokesman stated that the suspects had made statements and confessed to being members of the Eiye Secret Cult Confraternity.

Nwabuzor noted that six suspects were arrested for murder and arson when a fight broke out at Igarra in the Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State.

Two suspected armed robbers and nine kidnappers, he said, were also arrested in the period under review.

He disclosed that six others suspected to be in unlawful possession of firearms were arrested, while three others were arrested for defilement and rape.

The police spokesperson revealed that the Command also nabbed one escapee from the correctional centre in the state and another four suspects for stealing and diversion of petroleum products from the NNPCL.

Within the month, Nwabuzor said the tactical team of the Command recovered one pump action, five locally-made cut-to-size guns, one locally-made cut-to-size pistol, one live cartridge, and two dummy guns.

He added: “The Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Dankwara, has reiterated that the operation will continue as much as we are within the ember months.

“It is the period where you see criminal elements perpetrating their evils; it is a period when people take property that does not belong to them.

“The tactical team that has been working to record these achievements will continue to do so.”
