Police arrest 65, seize illicit drugs in Maiduguri raids

The Borno State Police Command has arrested 65 suspects and recovered large quantities of illicit drugs during coordinated raids across Maiduguri metropolis as part of efforts to curb crime and anti-social activities.

The operation, conducted on July 9 and 10 by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS) Anti-Social Vices Unit, followed a nationwide directive by the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, for intensified enforcement against criminal activities.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the suspects were arrested for offences including public nuisance, possession and consumption of illicit drugs, as well as other anti-social activities.

Items recovered during the operation included 460 wraps of cannabis, 395 tablets of D5, 100 tablets of Exzol, two Tramadol capsules, one shisha pot, two ice bunkers and two packs of other suspected illicit substances.

The command said the suspects and exhibits remain in police custody while investigations continue, adding that those found culpable would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Commissioner of Police, Naziru Abdulmajid, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication, reaffirming the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property across the state.

He also urged residents to continue supporting the police with credible and timely information to aid ongoing efforts to prevent and combat crime in Borno State.
