The Kano State Police Command has arrested an alleged drug dealer and five suspected thugs during an operation at Jaoji Quarters in the Kano metropolis.
The command’s Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued on Monday, describing the operation as a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking and related crimes in the state.
According to Haruna, police officers attached to the Jaoji Police Division apprehended a 25-year-old suspect, Hafizu Ali, alongside five others suspected to be involved in thuggery. He said assorted illicit drugs and dangerous weapons were recovered during the operation.
The raid, carried out on January 10, was conducted under the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s nationwide directive to intensify crime prevention efforts and dismantle criminal networks.
Haruna disclosed that the suspected drug dealer was found with 2,070 capsules of suspected Pregabalin and 23 wraps of suspected Cannabis Sativa. Items recovered from the other suspects included four knives, two pairs of scissors and an axe.
The Commissioner of Police commended the officers involved for their professionalism and dedication, while also appreciating residents of the state for their continued cooperation with law enforcement agencies.
Haruna added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
