Police arrest FCDA official for impersonating CIPMN president

The Nigerian Police have arrested Mr. Jamilu Isa Yankwashi, a senior official of the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA), for allegedly impersonating the President of the Chartered Institute of Project Managers of Nigeria (CIPMN), Chief Emmanuel Olabode.

Yankwashi was apprehended on May 26, 2025, by officers from the Inspector General of Police’s office at the FCDA Secretariat, Area 11, Abuja.

His arrest took place during an attempt to conduct a purported five-day training and induction event for new CIPMN members in a sparsely attended session at the FCDA’s third-floor conference hall.

A warrant of arrest with number CR/392/25, issued by the Chief Magistrate Court 1 in Karu, Abuja, authorized the arrest. The document cited charges of criminal conspiracy and impersonation.

Mr. Henry Ifeanyi Mbadiwe, the Registrar General of CIPMN, confirmed the arrest and detailed the allegations against Yankwashi.

According to Mbadiwe, Yankwashi has for years falsely claimed to be the President of CIPMN, collecting public funds and issuing fraudulent licenses under the institute’s name.

“He has deceived the public and various government institutions, including the Federal Ministry of Trade and Investment, the Speaker of the National Assembly, the Minister of Defence, and the Director-General of the Bureau of Public Procurement,” Mbadiwe stated.

He further alleged that Yankwashi, alongside former CIPMN Council Chairperson Mrs. Victoria Okoronkwo, continued to parade themselves as officials of the Institute even after the council they belonged to was dissolved by former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Yankwashi is also accused of operating a private limited liability company account with Zenith Bank under the guise of CIPMN, through which he allegedly diverted public funds.

“The law has finally caught up with someone who thought he could misuse a federal institution as personal property. This arrest is a strong signal that impunity will not go unpunished,” Mbadiwe said.

The Institute has called on the Inspector General of Police to ensure that the case is pursued to its legal conclusion and that the integrity of the police force is upheld throughout the process.
