Police arrest teachers, students for JAMB exam malpractice in Edo

Police operatives attached to Airport Police Division in Benin, the Edo State capital, have arrested two male teachers and four students in connection with the Joint Admissions Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination malpractice.

It was gathered that two of the suspects (teachers) at Salvation International Preparatory School located in Benin were arrested on the order of the principal of school, Olaide Toyinbo, following their alleged involvement in the examination racketeering.

They were said to have influenced the enrollment of over 20 students in a “miracle centre” for JAMB examination after the duo allegedly collected huge sums of money running into thousandsofnairafromthestudents with the assurance that they will pass their examination with ease.

According to the JAMB bulletin issued on Monday, June 5, this was after the examination results were released with the students’ abysmal failures thereby raising dust of the unexpected from the victims who demanded refund of their money.

Sources said the suspects have been involved in examination malpractice long before the last straw that broke the camel’s back, especially with JAMB, WAEC, and NECO examinations against the policies of the school that had been in existence over 25 years ago.

Confirming the arrest of the suspects, the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Chidi Nwanbuzor, said the suspects confessed to the crime, adding that they will be charged to court on completion of investigation as they were detained and subsequently granted bail for further investigation.

Speaking with journalists, the principal of school said:” I travelled to America when my son’s wife delivered of a baby when the Director of the School, Pastor Femi Toyinbo called me. I raced to Nigeria and ordered the arrest of the teachers when I called in the police.

”The police arrested some the students because I don’t do malpractice in my school and outside. The teachers are criminals and they will suffer for their evil activities.”
