Police arrest three suspected armed robbers in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers accused of terrorising residents of Yola, the state capital.

In a statement released on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Nguroje, said the suspects were apprehended through a joint effort between the police and members of the community under the Command’s Community Policing Initiative.

“The Adamawa State Police Command, in collaboration with vigilant community members, has arrested three suspected Shilla Boys involved in armed robbery, housebreaking, and theft,” Nguroje said.

The suspects were identified as Auwal Inusa, Huzaifa Ahmed, and Lukman Abdullahi, all aged 19 and residents of Nassarawo Ward in Yola North Local Government Area.

According to the police, the arrests took place in the early hours of January 5, 2026, at about 3:00 a.m., after the suspects allegedly armed themselves with cutlasses, daggers, and knives to break into a house in the Nassarawo area of Jimeta, where they reportedly robbed the occupants of valuables.

“Members of the community intercepted the gang and arrested three of the four suspects, while one managed to escape,” the statement noted.

Items recovered from the suspects include two mobile phones, a power bank, one cutlass, and two knives allegedly used in carrying out the robbery.

The Commissioner of Police, Dankombo Morris, praised residents for their vigilance and cooperation, urging the public to continue supporting the police by promptly reporting suspicious movements and activities.

Police said investigations are ongoing and that the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of the investigation.

The statement also recalled that the notorious Shilla gang emerged around 2015 during the administration of former Governor Jibrilla Bindow, initially targeting members of opposition political parties before expanding their activities into widespread armed robbery.
