The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 23-year-old housewife for allegedly attempting to kill her husband by slitting his throat while he slept.

The command’s spokesperson, DSP Abubakar Sadiq-Aliyu, disclosed the incident in a statement issued on Tuesday.

According to him, the case was reported to the Central Market Police Division at about 9 a.m. on Monday by the victim, Jamilu Ibrahim.

Sadiq-Aliyu said Ibrahim told police that at about 5:30 a.m. the same day, his wife allegedly attacked him with a knife while he was asleep in an attempt to cut his throat.

The victim sustained a deep neck injury and was rushed to a hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment and responding positively, the police said.

Following the report, police operatives visited the scene, arrested the suspect and recovered the knife allegedly used in the attack.

The police spokesperson said the woman remains in custody while investigations continue, adding that she would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.

Reacting to the incident, the Katsina State Commissioner of Police, Aliyu Umar-Fage, urged residents to shun domestic violence and seek peaceful and lawful ways of resolving family disputes.

He also appealed to members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to assist the police in combating crime across the state.
