Veteran Nollywood actor Elegbeje Ado dies

Veteran Nollywood actor Taiwo Adeshina, popularly known by his stage name Elegbeje Ado, has died.

His death was confirmed on Tuesday by fellow actor and filmmaker Kunle Afod in a post shared on his Instagram page.

Afod, while mourning the late actor, announced his passing and paid tribute to his contributions to the Yoruba movie industry. The cause of death was not disclosed.

Elegbeje Ado was widely recognised for his compelling portrayals of traditional priests, herbalists and other indigenous spiritual characters in Yoruba-language films. His commanding screen presence and distinctive acting style made him a familiar face in numerous Nollywood productions spanning several decades.

Known for bringing authenticity to culturally rooted roles, the late actor built a reputation as one of the industry’s dependable character actors, earning admiration from colleagues and movie lovers alike.

Although he rarely played leading roles, his performances left a lasting impression and contributed significantly to the growth of Yoruba cinema.

Tributes have continued to pour in from fans and members of the Nigerian film industry, who have described his death as a painful loss to Nollywood.

Further details surrounding his death and funeral arrangements are yet to be announced by the family.
