Police deny involvement in land dispute with FCT community

The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command has refuted claims of involvement in a land dispute with residents of the Kuchibyi community under the Byazin Division, following a viral video that showed community members confronting police officers.

In the video, agitated youths were seen blocking police vehicles from entering the village, shouting at officers to leave while brandishing sticks and other threatening objects.

Reacting to the incident, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, clarified that the police were not parties to any land ownership conflict but had responded to a distress call reporting civil unrest in the area.

“The DPOs of Byazin and Kubwa Divisions swiftly mobilized to the scene and brought the situation under control.

“Arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing,” Adeh stated.

She emphasized that the unrest stemmed from a communal land dispute within the community and had nothing to do with the police.

She also condemned the attack on law enforcement officers who were dispatched to restore peace.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ajao Adewale, strongly condemns the actions of the youths who attacked police officers performing their lawful duty.

Such conduct is unacceptable, and those responsible will face the full weight of the law,” she warned.

The command urged residents, especially the youth, to remain law-abiding and avoid actions that could incite violence or threaten public peace.

The statement reaffirmed the police’s commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all FCT residents.
