Police identify 27-year-old medical graduate killed by boyfriend

The Enugu State Police Command has identified the woman allegedly killed by her boyfriend as 27-year-old Chinyere Rosemary Ugwu, a Medical Laboratory Science graduate of the Institute of Management and Technology, Enugu.

Ugwu, who recently completed her National Youth Service Corps programme, was allegedly murdered by her 30-year-old boyfriend, Okpara Chibuike Emmanuel.

Emmanuel was earlier arrested by the police in connection with the alleged killing and is currently being investigated.

In an update on the case, the command said investigators had established the identity of the deceased and identified her parents and siblings, who were subsequently interviewed.

The Commissioner of Police also met with Ugwu’s family and the suspect as part of efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding her death.

The police assured the family that the investigation would be conducted thoroughly and that efforts would be made to ensure justice is served.

The command also advised members of the public, particularly women, to exercise caution when meeting or spending time with people they know or are in relationships with.

It urged individuals to keep trusted relatives or friends informed of their whereabouts and avoid situations that could expose them to danger.

The police further advised people to remain alert to warning signs in relationships and prioritise their personal safety.

Emmanuel has also been interviewed by investigators as the probe continues.

The command said further updates would be released as the investigation progresses.
