Police Inspector arrested for assaulting Uber driver in Lagos

The Lagos State Police Command has arrested Inspector Obic Modestus seen in a viral video assaulting an Uber driver in the state.

A video which was shared on X showed the police Inspector repeatedly striking the driver with closed fists.

“A new video of Nigerian policemen violently assaulting an Uber driver. Please spread this video cos this is someone’s father they’re beating like an animal like this,” the video was captioned.

Reacting to the video on Monday, May 19, 2025, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the detention of the Inspector.

Hundeyin stated: “The Police Officer, Inspector Obic Modestus, has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU) Lagos State Police Command.

“He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures.

“The Lagos State Police Command, under CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public.”
