Police kill one bandit, nab 6 kidnappers, robbers in Kaduna

The operatives of the Kaduna State Police Command have neutralised one suspected bandit and arrested three suspected kidnappers in the state.

The police officers also apprehended three suspected armed robbers.

The command’s spokesperson, ASP Mansir Hassan, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, December 10, 2024.

Hassan said at about 2:45 p.m. on October 8, a surveillance team from the Kasuwan Mata Police Division, acting on credible information, conducted a successful operation in a brothel in the Kasuwan Mata area of Zaria, Kaduna State.

He said during the operation, a 35-year-old suspect, Adamu Yahaya, was arrested.

“A thorough search of his person led to the discovery of a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge, and a pair of handcuffs in his possession,” Hassan said.

The police spokesman added that preliminary investigations have commenced, noting that the suspect remained in police custody “where he is being interrogated”.

Hassan disclosed that on the same October 8, at about 10:30 a.m., a patrol team from Barnawa Division, while conducting a stop-and-search operation, intercepted two suspects.

Hassan stated: “These two suspects are identified as Andrew Emmanuel, male, resident of Gbagyi Villa, Kaduna and Mendwas Peter Bulus, male, resident of Television Village, Kaduna.

“During the search, the following items were recovered for them: one service pistol, two Infinix phones and some quantity of dry leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

“The suspects confessed to being armed robbers operating within Kaduna.”

The police spokesperson noted that investigations were underway to uncover the full extent of their activities and to identify other accomplices.

Hassan said the police surveillance team attached to Dan-Magaji Division, while acting on credible intelligence on December 9, observed three individuals behaving suspiciously along the Kano-Kaduna expressway.

“Upon interrogation, the suspects provided unsatisfactory responses, prompting a thorough search. During the search, officers discovered 216 rounds of 9mm live ammunition and one round of 7.62x39mm live ammunition in their possession,” Hassan disclosed.

The police spokesperson said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Damakasuwa, on December 10, received credible intelligence regarding an attack by suspected bandits on residents in the Tudu Gishere area.

He added: “Acting swiftly, the DPO mobilised a team of officers and personnel from the Kaduna State Vigilance Service (KADVS) and members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) to respond to the situation.

“Upon arrival at the scene, police operatives engaged the bandits in a fierce gunfight. In the process, one bandit was neutralised, while the remaining suspects fled into the surrounding bushes with gunshot wounds.”

Hassan quoted the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Abdullahi, as commending the officers for the successful operations.

Abdullahi urged the people of Kaduna State to continue providing the police with credible information to help the continuous fight against crimes across the state.
