The Nigeria Police Force has arrested two suspects linked to separate cases involving the dissemination of false information, including a fake audio recording purportedly featuring President Bola Tinubu and a social media post that allegedly spread fear on security in Abuja.
Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga announced the arrests on Thursday, June 4, 2026.
Onanuga disclosed that operatives from the Inspector-General of Police’s crack team apprehended Ifechukwu Dennis in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, for allegedly creating and circulating a fabricated voice recording presented as that of Tinubu.
Onanuga said the suspect used the fake audio to deceive Nigerians, adding that the police would soon issue an official statement providing details of the investigation and arrest.
“The IGP crack team has arrested Ifechukwu Dennis who originated the fake voice that he passed on to his gullible targets as President Tinubu’s voice. Dennis was arrested in Benin. The police will issue an official statement,” he wrote on X.

The presidential spokesman revealed that the police also arrested another Nigerian accused of publishing a social media post that raised alarm over security in Abuja.
Onanuga said the post contributed to public panic and misinformation, stressing that security agencies are committed to tackling the spread of false content capable of undermining public confidence and order.
He noted that the arrests demonstrate the determination of law enforcement agencies to hold individuals accountable for the reckless use of social media platforms.
“By arresting him, the police have sent the clear message that reckless users of the social media won’t go Scot free,” Onanuga said.
