Police officer threatens to kill anyone who films him on duty

A man identified as Newton Isokpehi, who claims to be a serving officer of the Nigerian Police Force with 26 years of service, has sparked outrage after threatening to kill anyone who records him while on duty.

In a viral video circulated on social media on Wednesday, Isokpehi issued repeated threats against members of the public and any superior officer he alleged had authorised the filming of police officers during operations.

Speaking in Pidgin English, the officer warned that anyone who attempted to film him while carrying out his duties would be met with deadly force.

He also directed threats at senior officers, saying those who allow or encourage the recording of policemen on duty would “face consequences,” including violence.

Following the circulation of the video, the officer’s TikTok account, TikTok handle “Newton isokpehi for life” remained active, although the video in question was later deleted.

Several other posts showing him in police uniform and sharing personal content were still visible at the time of filing this report.

The authenticity of his status as a serving officer could not be independently verified, and the Nigeria Police Force had yet to issue an official response.

In the video, Isokpehi also claimed to have served in the force for 26 years and complained about working conditions, alleging that officers endure hardship and lack adequate welfare support.

He displayed what he described as bullet wounds on his arm, saying they were evidence of injuries sustained in the line of duty.

He also referenced ongoing efforts by the current Inspector-General of Police to address unpaid insurance and death benefits for families of deceased officers.

The video, which featured a direct-to-camera rant with an overlay reading “God bless police,” has triggered widespread condemnation online, with many users describing the statements as dangerous and unprofessional.

Authorities have not confirmed whether disciplinary action has been taken as of press time.
