Police re-arrest notorious drug dealer in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has re-arrested a notorious drug dealer, Sulaiman Danwawu, 32, of Tudun Yola Quarters, for possession of illicit drugs.

Danwawu, previously charged in 2022 for being in possession of 500 cartons of suspected Tramadol, was apprehended again as part of the Command’s intensified crackdown on drug-related crimes.

Commissioner of Police Ibrahim Adamu Bakori made the announcement during a press briefing at the Bompai Police Headquarters on Friday, noting that the operation was in line with the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun’s directive for modern, proactive crime-fighting strategies.

In a separate operation, the police arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered two Beretta pistols along with 10 rounds of live ammunition.

Between April 23 and May 9, 2025, the Command made significant strides in crime prevention, arresting five armed robbery suspects, seven drug dealers, one cattle rustler, four fraudsters, 13 thieves, and 48 suspected thugs known locally as Yan Daba.

Recovered items during the operations included two beretta pistols with live ammunition, assorted drugs: Pregabalin, Diazepam, Tramadol, Codeine, Pentazocine, and Cannabis, eight vehicles, three tricycles, and two motorcycles.

Others are 12 cutlasses, 15 knives, counterfeit currency totaling $198 and ₦311,000, five sheep, two rams, 12 mobile phones, a generator, and other household items.

Commissioner Bakori emphasized that the successes reflect the effectiveness of the Command’s approach in tackling crime, especially drug abuse, which he identified as a major driver of violent crimes such as thuggery and armed robbery.

“These achievements demonstrate that our strategies are working. We’ve seen a notable decline in phone snatching, thuggery, and car theft in Kano,” he said.

He also assured residents of the Command’s continued commitment to ensuring public safety and urged the public to assist the police with credible information.

“We appreciate the media and the good people of Kano for their support.

“We rely on your cooperation to sustain peace and security,” Bakori stated.

He outlined several proactive strategies behind the recent successes, including round-the-clock patrols, intelligence-led operations, community policing, and regular officer training focused on professionalism and human rights compliance.
