The police officer, who appeared in a viral video carrying a food tray for his ‘madam’ at a party, has been summoned by the Nigeria Police Force (NPF), the Force Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, has said.

Adejobi, who made this known on Wednesday night, said the policeman had been identified and summoned to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for questioning.

A video showing the policeman carrying a food tray with jollof rice, ‘moi moi’, fish, and meat had gone viral on social media.

In the 18-seconds video, the woman was also seen acknowledging greetings from another woman while the police officer in uniform held a plate of food and followed her closely at an event.

However, the woman the police officer was holding the food tray for has been identified as the former Nigerian ambassador to the Republic of Netherlands, Nimota Akanbi.

Akanbi is also the chairman of the Governing Board of National Secondary School Education.

Speaking on the development, the Force Police Public Relations Officer said the police authorities expressed displeasure over the act.

Adejobi further described the situation as embarrassing and unprofessional, saying the Force will no longer tolerate such an act.

“The policeman has been identified. He is coming to Abuja to meet us. We’ll ask questions from him and take necessary action.

“We need to discourage such a thing because it is embarrassing the image of the Force and we can’t continue to be experiencing that kind of a thing because it is highly unprofessional,” the FPPRO said.

Meanwhile, the former Nigerian ambassador to the Republic of Netherlands, who the policeman was attached to, has denied ordering the officer to hold the food tray for her.

Akanbi, who made this known in a statement on Wednesday, said she allowed the police officer to carry his own food at an event they both attended in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital.

She added that she understood the importance and nature of the work of security operatives, noting that she would never do anything to humiliate them.

Akanbi, however, urged Nigerians to disregard the video, adding that “she is teacher and disciplinarian”.
