Tragedy struck Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic (ATAP), Bauchi, on Friday after a student was killed during an armed robbery at an off-campus lodge.
Eyewitnesses said the incident happened around 3 a.m. when three armed men invaded a residence housing two students.
In the course of the attack, one of them, identified as Samuel Mbami, an ND II Mass Communication student, was stabbed in the stomach.
He later died from excessive bleeding.
The killing comes barely two weeks after a similar robbery at the Federal Polytechnic Bauchi, Dass Road campus, which forced the institution to shut down temporarily following student protests.
Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani Aliyu, confirmed that some suspects have already been arrested in connection with the incident.
He assured that the command would leave “no stone unturned” in ensuring justice, adding that plans were underway to establish a divisional police headquarters in Wuntin Dada to strengthen security in the area.
Meanwhile, the Students’ Union Government (SUG) of ATAP condemned the killing, describing it as “tragic and senseless.”
In a statement signed by its president, Usman Aliyu, the union demanded a thorough investigation, improved security measures on and off campus, and urged students to remain calm and prioritize their safety.
