Kano CP rallies task force to crush drug, thuggery networks

The Kano State Police Command has pledged to strengthen collaboration with the Kano State Multi-Agency Taskforce on Drugs and Illicit Trafficking to intensify the fight against drug abuse, trafficking and thuggery across the state.

The commitment was made by the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, during a meeting with the Chairman of the task force, Muhuyi Magaji Rimin-Gado, at the Police Command Headquarters in Bompai.

A statement issued on Thursday by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Abdullahi Haruna, said the police commissioner described drug abuse as a major driver of violent crimes, particularly the activities of thugs popularly known as Fadan Daba.

Bakori stressed that addressing the menace requires coordinated action among security agencies and other stakeholders, assuring the task force of the command’s full backing.

He said the police would support the agency through intelligence sharing, joint operations, technical expertise and the deployment of tactical assets to dismantle drug trafficking networks and tackle criminal gangs operating in the state.

The commissioner also appealed to parents, traditional rulers, religious leaders and members of the public to support law enforcement agencies with credible information that could help curb the spread of illicit drugs and protect young people from criminal influences.

He warned that individuals involved in drug trafficking, peddling or thuggery would face the full weight of the law.

Earlier, Rimin-Gado said the visit was aimed at strengthening cooperation between the task force and the police command as part of efforts to implement its 2026 operational strategy.

He noted that the task force would complement police operations through public enlightenment campaigns, community engagement and intelligence gathering targeted at disrupting drug supply chains and reducing substance abuse across Kano.

Rimin-Gado also commended the Kano State Police Command for its proactive approach to tackling crime and expressed confidence that closer collaboration would improve the fight against drug-related offences in the state.
