Shettima begins first leave since assuming office

Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week leave, marking his first official break since assuming office alongside President Bola Tinubu in May 2023.

The leave, which began on Thursday, was announced in a statement issued by the Vice President’s spokesman, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to the statement, Shettima will use the period for study and personal reflection aimed at enhancing his capacity to support the administration’s programmes and responsibilities.

It said the Vice President would review key government initiatives, deepen his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, and prepare for the next phase of implementing the Tinubu administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Since taking office on May 29, 2023, Shettima has played a central role in coordinating major government programmes spanning economic reforms, food security, humanitarian interventions, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also chairs the National Economic Council (NEC), where state governors, the Central Bank Governor and other senior government officials deliberate on economic policies and national development issues.

Beyond domestic engagements, the Vice President has represented President Tinubu at several regional and international forums, promoting Nigeria’s interests on economic integration, peace and security, climate action, investment and sustainable development.

The statement described Shettima as remaining committed to supporting President Tinubu’s administration through loyalty, service and effective coordination of government policies.

It added that the Vice President is expected to resume official duties after the two-week break.
