Pregnant woman brutally assaulted by husband over N40,000 loan

A disturbing case of domestic abuse has surfaced in Kano State, where a man allegedly assaulted his four-month-pregnant wife into unconsciousness after she asked him to repay a N40,000 loan she had given him.

The harrowing details came to light during a broadcast of Baba Suda, a widely followed programme on Dala FM, sparking widespread outrage among listeners.

According to the victim, her husband reacted violently to her request, striking her neck so forcefully that she lost consciousness.

“He hit me, and I passed out. When a neighbor tried to step in, my husband chased him away, claiming it was a private matter,” she recounted tearfully.

She further described how the beating left her with multiple injuries, including swollen, reddened eyes caused by cable lashings. Despite the severity of the injuries, her husband has denied the allegations before the Upper Sharia Court in Danbare, Kano.

When asked if she would consider reconciling with him, the woman firmly declined.

“A man who beats his wife shows no compassion.

“If I return, I may not survive the next time.

“This isn’t the first or second time—there’s no love left.”

Her father confirmed the history of abuse, saying he had previously advised her to return home, unaware of the full extent of the violence.

“We only found out what happened after neighbors rushed her to the hospital,” he said, expressing anger over the police’s poor handling of the case at Bachirawa Station.

The case has been adjourned to May 21, 2025, to allow for additional witnesses to testify.

Meanwhile, the woman’s lawyer told the court that the husband failed to pay for her medical treatment, leaving the financial burden to her family.

In response, the court has advised the victim’s legal team to file separate cases addressing both the financial neglect and the recurring domestic abuse.
