Presidency slams ADC over comments on Buhari’s burial

The Presidency has fired back at the African Democratic Congress (ADC) over its recent criticism of the state burial accorded to former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the party’s statement as “obnoxious, opportunistic, and shameless.”

In a strongly worded press release signed by Sunday Dare, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Media and Public Communications, the Presidency accused the ADC of exploiting Buhari’s death to gain political relevance.

“The latest outburst from the ADC is nothing but an opportunistic exercise in manufactured outrage — a laughable tantrum by a poorly amalgamated political contraption desperately clutching at straws for relevance it will never attain,” the statement read.

The ADC had earlier alleged that the Tinubu administration was politicising the death and burial of the former president, a claim the Presidency dismissed as “dishonest” and “an insult to millions of Nigerians who mourned Buhari with respect and dignity.”

According to the statement, Buhari’s burial was conducted with full state honours befitting his status, with world leaders and millions of Nigerians paying their respects.

The Presidency also accused the ADC and other opposition figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Kaduna governor Nasir El-Rufai, of attempting to hijack the solemn occasion for political gain.

“From Atiku and El Rufai’s choreographed arrival in Daura to ADC promoters prancing about the Buhari family compound like eager real estate agents, the opportunism was disgraceful,” Dare said.

The statement went on to defend the Tinubu administration’s performance, listing key achievements such as the stabilisation of the naira, increased oil production, improved FAAC allocations, and the launch of major infrastructure projects.
It also highlighted social welfare initiatives like the NELFUND student loan scheme and the Consumer Credit Programme.

“These are not press statements. These are results. Tangible, measurable, and ongoing. That is leadership,” Dare said.

The Presidency dismissed the ADC as a party “consumed by internal squabbles and legal battles,” accusing it of being “reduced to issuing baseless attacks to cling to the fringes of relevance.”

Reaffirming Tinubu’s commitment to governance, the statement concluded: “President Tinubu honoured Buhari with dignity in death and continues to honour his legacy through hard work, not hollow words.

“Nigerians should ignore this political noise from an outfit gasping for attention.”
