The Police Service Commission (PSC) has approved the promotion of one Assistant Inspector-General of Police to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police, alongside several other senior officers of the Nigeria Police Force, following the conclusion of written examinations and oral interviews.
The promotion exercise, held on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, at the PSC Corporate Headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, was presided over by the Commission’s Chairman, DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the PSC announced that AIG Mohammed Usman Gumel, who was until his promotion in charge of the Community Policing Project (CPP), Research and Planning Department at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, has been elevated to the rank of Deputy Inspector-General of Police (DIG).
The Commission also promoted seven Commissioners of Police (CPs) to the rank of Assistant Inspectors-General of Police (AIGs).
Those promoted include Ihebom Chukwuma, Maxwell Olatokunbo, Abaniwonda Olufemi, Alonyenu Francis Idu, Lawal B. Ayodeji, Agene Emmanuel and Vungmoh S.M. Kwaimo.
Additionally, thirteen Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCPs) were promoted to the rank of Commissioners of Police, while thirty Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) were elevated to the rank of Deputy Commissioners of Police.
The PSC further approved the promotion of fifty-one Chief Superintendents of Police (CSPs) to Assistant Commissioners of Police, five hundred and forty-two Superintendents of Police (SPs) to Chief Superintendents of Police, one hundred and nineteen Deputy Superintendents of Police (DSPs) to Superintendents of Police, and twelve Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) to Deputy Superintendents of Police.
Congratulating the newly promoted officers, DIG Argungu urged them to brace up to the demands of their new ranks and responsibilities.
He emphasized that promotion comes with higher expectations and called on the officers to demonstrate greater commitment to effective policing, protection of lives and property, and the maintenance of law and order.
The PSC Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s commitment to regular and merit-based promotions in line with global best practices.
