Real Madrid beat Liverpool in UCL final

Real Madrid beat Liverpool on Saturday to win the Champions League final in Paris for a record 14th time.

Vinicius Jnr scored in 59th minute to secure the victory for the Spanish giants.

Jurgen Klopp’s side were hoping to avenge their 2018 Champions League final defeat to the Spanish giants in Kyiv but they could not find a leveller and went down 1-0 after Vinicius ghosted in at the far post to convert Federico Valverde’s low cross from close range.

Liverpool were making their third Champions League final appearance in five years but the defeat ensured they miss out on a treble having won the Carabao Cup and FA Cups earlier this season, while Madrid, their run to the final characterised by a series of extraordinary comebacks, celebrated another European triumph.

The game’s kick-off time had earlier been delayed by more than half an hour as organisational problems outside the Stade de France caused long delays and dangerous overcrowding for Liverpool supporters attempting to enter the ground.

Real Madrid have a fifth Champions League in nine seasons to go with their Spanish title, as Carlo Ancelotti becomes the first coach to win European club football’s greatest prize for a fourth time.

Ancelotti was also in charge of Real when they won the 2014 final having triumphed with AC Milan in 2003 and in 2007, the latter victory coming against Liverpool.

Ancelotti, who called himself “a record man”, said: “We managed the game very well.

“I had luck to come here last year and have a fantastic season. A fantastic club, a really good squad with a lot of quality and mental character.”
