FCT: Police arrest 300 in crime hotspot raids

The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has arrested about 300 people during raids on suspected criminal hideouts, shanties and uncompleted buildings across the territory.

The operation, conducted on Saturday, September 19, 2026, was part of efforts to disrupt criminal activities and improve security in communities identified as crime-prone.

The police said officers recovered knives, a toy gun, cannabis and other illicit substances during the raids.

The arrested persons are being screened and profiled to establish their identities and determine whether they were involved in criminal activities.

According to the Command, suspects found to have committed offences will be prosecuted, while those cleared of wrongdoing will be released after the completion of the screening process.

The FCT Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi, said the Command would continue to conduct intelligence-led operations in locations identified as potential criminal hideouts.

Sanusi also warned residents, particularly youths, against the abuse of illicit drugs, linking substance abuse to impaired judgment and behaviour that could increase the risk of violent and other criminal activities.

He urged people battling drug-related problems to seek counselling and rehabilitation rather than allow substance abuse to expose them to criminal networks.

The commissioner further directed officers involved in the raids to respect the law and maintain professional conduct throughout the operations.

He specifically warned personnel against using arrests and searches to extort money from residents or subject them to intimidation and harassment.

Sanusi said officers found demanding money unlawfully or engaging in other forms of misconduct would face disciplinary action.

The Command urged residents to assist security agencies by reporting suspicious movements, activities and locations believed to be used by criminals.

The public can contact the FCT Police Command on 08032003913 to provide security information or report emergencies.
