Residents cheer troops after major victory over bandits in Zamfara

Residents of Gummi town in Zamfara State on Thursday welcomed troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, with cheers and applause following a successful operation that led to the killing of several bandits and the recovery of motorcycles used in terrorist activities.

The operation was carried out at Dutsen Gidan Hill, about 17 kilometres from Gummi town in Gummi Local Government Area, where troops engaged the armed criminals during a military offensive.

According to a statement by the Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 8 Division Nigerian Army/Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Lt. Col. Olaniyi Osoba, the troops neutralised scores of terrorists and recovered dozens of motorcycles believed to have been used by the bandits in carrying out attacks on surrounding communities.

The recovered motorcycles were transported to the military base on an Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) following the operation.

The statement said the troops were received by a large crowd of residents who gathered at the military base to express appreciation for the operation and commend the soldiers for their efforts in improving security in the area.

It noted that the public show of support reflected growing confidence in the military’s ongoing counter-banditry operations across the North-West and highlighted the cooperation between local communities and security agencies.

The Army reiterated that Operation FANSAN YAMMA remains committed to sustaining offensive operations against bandits and other criminal elements across the region.

It also urged residents to continue providing credible and timely intelligence to support ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace and security in Zamfara State and the wider North-West.
