The Rivers State chapter of the Labour Party (LP) has adopted the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Siminialaye Fubara, ahead of Saturday’s gubernatorial election in the state.
The Labour Party dumped its gubernatorial standard bearer, Beatrice Itubo, for Fubara.
The LP chairman in Rivers State, Dienye Pepple, who made this known via a communique issued after the party’s executive meeting in Port Harcourt, the state capital on Tuesday, said the party’s decision followed uncertainties around Itubo.
Pepple noted that the Labour Party, in the interest of equity and fairness, resolved to adopt Fubara, who hails from the Rivers South-East Senatorial district “as it’s the only district that has not produced a governor”.
