Robbers stab police officer’s wife to death in Gombe

A woman identified as Aishatu Salisu, wife of a serving police officer, was killed during an early-morning robbery attempt at her residence in Wuro Shie Quarters, Gombe State.

The attack occurred at about 4:35am on Saturday, when suspected robbers armed with machetes and cutlasses reportedly invaded the residence of Inspector Salisu Waziri, who serves with the Safer Highway Patrol.

According to the Gombe State Police Command, the assailants targeted Aishatu’s mobile phone during the attack.

The victim reportedly raised an alarm after the suspects confronted her, prompting one of them to attack her with a machete before the assailants fled the scene.

The suspects allegedly left the mobile phone behind as they escaped.

A patrol team from the Pantami Divisional Police Station responded to the incident and rushed the victim to the Federal Teaching Hospital, Gombe, where she was pronounced dead.

Following the killing, the police launched an investigation and arrested two residents of Wuro Shie Quarters in connection with the attack.

The suspects were identified as 20-year-old Muhammad Bashir Sale, also known as “Full”, and 18-year-old Musa Sale Ahmad, alias “Abba”.

The police said preliminary investigations indicated that both suspects confessed to involvement in the crime.

A sharp knife was also recovered as an exhibit, according to the command.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Umar Ahmed Chuso, ordered a discreet and thorough investigation and directed that anyone found culpable be prosecuted.

The police also appealed to residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements and activities to security agencies.
