RRS arrests tricycle operators’ leader, four others in Lagos

The Rapid Response Squad (RRS) on Thursday arrested one of the leaders of Tricycle Owners and Operators Association of Nigeria (TOOAN), Alhaji Azeez Abiola, and four others for attempting to cause mayhem in the Agege area of Lagos State.

RRS stated that it also recovered a pump action gun in the area.

This is coming barely a few hours after the RRS said the Lagos State Government had directed the RRS Commander, CSP Yinka Egbeyemi, to deploy patrol teams to Agege and Abule Egba areas of the state to forestall the plan to attack the state headquarters of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Agege.

A statement shared on the RRS Facebook page on Thursday had revealed that the state government ordered the RRS Commander to comb Agege and Abule Egba areas of the state in search of trouble makers.

However, in another statement shared on its Facebook page, the RRS stated: “Alhaji Azeez Abiola, alias istijaba was arrested along with Yusuf Azeez, a.k.a Araba (42), Kazeem Akinbode a.k.a Womi (43), Taofiq Odewale, a.k.a Omo Iya Agba (38) and Moses Abiodun, a.k.a Orobo (34).

“They were arrested in Agege while leading a team of supporters to NURTW headquarters in Agege, an action which the authority believed would trigger violence and chaos in other parts of the metropolis.

“While police arrested Azeez Abiola and four other suspects, a pump action gun was recovered from the area where some of his supporters who fled to evade arrest were standing.”

It added that the State Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alabi, has directed the RRS Commander “to transfer the suspects and the exhibit to the State Command for further investigations”.
