Sanwo-Olu sends new commissioner nominees list to Lagos Assembly

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has sent a new list of cabinet member-nominees to the Lagos State House of Assembly for confirmation.

This was disclosed in a series of posts on the House’s X account on Monday, September 4, 2023.

The posts read: “Today at Plenary: Mr. Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, sends a second list of nominees for Commissioners and Special Advisers.

“Governor Nominees for Commissioners: Prof. Akin Abayomi gets another shot to reappear before the House.”

The post further quoted the Speaker of the House, Mudashiru Obasa, as calling on the committee that handled the previous nominees to take charge of the new list sent by Governor Sanwo-Olu and report back to the House on Thursday, September 7, 2023.

“Some of the nominees have their documents with you, and you can reach out to the new nominees. I want you to be thorough and do the needful while carrying out this exercise,” Obasa added.

The latest development is coming a few weeks after the House confirmed 22 and rejected 17 out of the 39 nominees earlier sent by Sanwo-Olu for confirmation.

Those rejected by the lawmakers were former Commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi; former Commissioner for Information, Gbenga Omotosho; and Folashade Adefisayo (Education).

Others included Yomi Oluyomi, Folashade Ambrose, Barakat Bakare, Olalere Odusote, Dr Rotimi Fashola, and Bolaji Dada.

The rejection elicited reactions from politicians and residents of Lagos State.

Governor Sanwo-Olu had, on July 28, 2023, sent the first list containing names of 39 nominees being considered as commissioners and Special Advisers-designate in his cabinet.
