Security operatives have successfully rescued 19-year-old Hamdiyya Sidi Sharif, who was abducted by suspected bandits, during a bush combing patrol along the Lambar Bakura–Yar Geda Highway in Bakura Local Government Area of Zamfara State on Tuesday, May 21, 2025.
Hamdiyya, a prominent youth advocate known for her outspoken criticism of the Sokoto State government’s response to the persistent security crisis, had drawn attention to the deteriorating situation in the eastern region of the state.
Her activism highlighted the plight of thousands displaced by rampant banditry and the transformation of entire communities into ghost towns.
According to police sources who spoke to Zagazola Makama, the patrol team encountered and rescued Hamdiyya at around 1:00 PM.
