An Area Court sitting in Jos, the Plateau State capital, on Monday, June 26, sentenced two security guards, Abubakar Adam and Gambo Bukas, to 24 months imprisonment for sleeping on duty and paving way for the theft of two vehicle engines worth N900,000.
The police prosecutor, Inspector Ibrahim Gowkat, told the court that the case was reported at the Laranto police station on May 10, 2023, by one Segun Peter.
Gowkat said the convicts, who are security guards at Peter’s mechanic garage, slept off on duty and paved way for thieves to steal two vehicle engines worth N900,000.

The prosecutor further told the court that during police investigation the accused persons pleaded guilty to the offence.
The offence, he said, contravened the Plateau State Penal Code law of Northern Nigeria.
The presiding judge, Thomas Ajitise, however, sentenced the security guards after they pleaded guilty to the offence of negligence of duty and begged the court for leniency.
Ajitse gave the convicts an option of N100,000 fine each or 24 months imprisonment and asked them to pay N 90,000 each as compensation to the complainant.
