Security operatives raid bandits’ hideouts, arrest 4 kidnappers in Abuja

Security operatives have arrested no fewer than four suspected kidnappers following raids on their hideouts at Gidan Dogo and Kweti Forest in Kaduna State, bordering Abuja.

The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, June 9, 2024.

Adeh noted that the suspected kidnappers were arrested by the operatives of the FCT Police Command, in synergy with the special forces of the guards brigade and the Department of State Services (DSS), on Friday, June 7.

She listed the arrested suspects to include Yahaya Abubakar, 25, of Mpape; Mohammed Mohamed, 32, of Zuba (ex-convict); Umar Aliyu, 20; and Nura Abdullahi, 32, (ex-convict).

The police spokesperson stated that the suspected kidnappers freely confessed to being members of a notorious bandit syndicate with the name ‘Mai One Million’, responsible for a series of kidnappings and other heinous crimes in Abuja and its environs.

Adeh said the operation led to a shootout between the bandits and the security operatives, forcing them to scamper for safety and victims rescued.

Adeh said the illegally erected structures by the kidnappers in all the patrolled camps were destroyed, adding that the rescued victims have since been reunited with their families.

She quoted the FCT Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh, as commending the effort of the security operatives in the fight against criminality in the nation’s capital.

Igweh further reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the security and safety of the residents of Abuja.

He, therefore, urged the residents to be vigilant and take advantage of the police emergency lines in reporting suspicious activities.
