Senate confirms Bernard Doro as minister

The Senate has confirmed the appointment of Dr Bernard Doro as minister by President Bola Tinubu.

The confirmation on Thursday, October 30, 2025, followed Doro’s screening by the Senate Committee of the Whole.

Doro, while responding to questions from senators, promise to prioritise transparency and efficiency in humanitarian service delivery.

“I will create a humanitarian ecosystem that is efficient, that is transparent and that is centred on the person that is being cared for,” he said.

He also pledged to strengthen collaboration among government agencies to eliminate duplication and improve outcomes.

“I will create synergy amongst the different agencies of government and ensure that we are able to reduce duplication and achieve results. I believe that technology can help us to be able to achieve that,” Doro added.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, thereafter, put the nomination to a voice vote, and it was unanimously approved by the lawmakers.

Akpabio congratulated Doro for his performance before the Senate.

Doro, who hails from Plateau, was nominated to replace Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda who is now the National Chairman of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Born on January 23, 1969 in Kwall, Bassa Local Government Area of Plateau, Doro is a medical and administrative professional with over two decades of experience, spanning clinical practice, pharmaceutical management and strategic leadership in both Nigeria and United Kingdom.

He holds degrees in Pharmacy and Law, an MBA in IT-driven business strategy and a Master’s degree in Advanced Clinical Practice.

Beyond his professional credentials, the new minister is known for his involvement in youth mentorship and social impact programmes both at home and within the Nigerian diaspora circle.
