Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has shared a personal story about his late parents, revealing how his mother once unknowingly involved him in delivering cannabis to his father, Fela Kuti, during one of his detentions.

In a recent interview, Seun recounted that his late mother, Fehintola Kuti, concealed cannabis inside a loaf of bread and asked him to give it to his father while visiting him in custody.

According to him, the incident occurred when Fela was being held at the Federal Investigation and Intelligence Department facility in Alagbon, Lagos. At the time, Seun said he was unaware of what he was carrying.

He explained that he was about eight or nine years old when his mother handed him the bread to deliver during a visit.

It was only later, on their way home, that his sister informed him of what had been hidden inside.

Seun noted that his mother deliberately kept him in the dark, believing he might unintentionally reveal the information to authorities if he had known.

Reflecting on his childhood, the 45-year-old added that visiting his father in detention was a recurring experience.

He recalled trips to several facilities, including Ikoyi Prison, Kirikiri Prison, Panti, and Alagbon, where Fela was held at different times.

Fela Kuti, a legendary figure in Afrobeat, was known for his frequent clashes with authorities during his lifetime.
