Sokoto govt secures scholarship for 63 indigenes in Malaysia

The Sokoto State Government, through its Zakkat and Waqf Commission (SOZECOM), has secured scholarship for 63 indigenes of the state.

The governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, made this known while addressing the students in the state on Saturday.

Tambuwal disclosed that a Malaysia-based Albukhary International University offered admission to 63 students of Sokoto State origin on the scholarship.

The governor, in departing address to students, urged them to return home and contribute their quota to the development of Sokoto State and Nigeria at large.

He commended the founder of the university and his foundation for supporting education development, scholarship, and gift to humanity.

“You have touched the lives of these children and several others. Only Allah can reward you and I pray to Allah to reward you abundantly,” Tambuwal said.

The governor further urged the students to abide by the laws of their host country and conform to the university’s regulations, saying “be good ambassadors of Sokoto State and Nigeria in general. Don’t fail us. Go there and conquer. Our prayers are with you.”

He, however, lauded the SOZECOM chairman, Lawal Mai Doki, and his team for selecting the qualified students for the scholarship.

In his address, Doki said the scholarship was part of the Sokoto State’s partnership with foreign countries which gave the state the chance to secure both admission and scholarship opportunities for Sokoto students.

According to him, in addition to the sum of N2,387,000 provided to each student, the state also approved payment of one-year school fees for each of them covering their registration fees, laptop computers, among others.

On his part, the Vice Chancellor of the Albukhary International University, Prof. Abdul Aziz Tajuddin, applauded the Sokoto State Government through the SOZECOM for making the dreams of the students a reality.
