Uba Sani releases N4.289bn for Kaduna, LG pensioners

Kaduna State Governor Uba Sani has approved the release of N4.289 billion for the payment of pension entitlements, gratuities and death benefits to retired civil servants and families of deceased workers in state and local government service.

The disbursement covers 1,637 beneficiaries under two schemes — the Contributory Pension Scheme (Accrued Rights) and the Defined Benefit Scheme (Gratuities and Death Benefits).

Under the Contributory Pension Scheme, 1,392 pensioners will receive a combined N3.915 billion, while 245 beneficiaries under the Defined Benefit Scheme will share N374 million in gratuities and death benefits.

Commissioner for Information and Culture, Ahmed Maiyaki, who announced the approval in a statement, said the latest release brings the total disbursed since the start of the administration to N17.796 billion, benefiting no fewer than 8,344 retirees and families of deceased workers.

Maiyaki described the disbursement as consistent with the administration’s efforts to clear pension backlogs and restore confidence in the system, adding that the payments align with the government’s commitment to strengthening social protection.

“Governor Uba Sani remains deeply committed to the welfare of our senior citizens. This intervention goes beyond the settlement of liabilities; it is about restoring dignity and honouring years of meritorious service,” he said.

The commissioner added that the governor’s pension interventions form part of broader governance reforms aimed at promoting fiscal discipline, improving transparency and ensuring the long-term sustainability of public finance management.

He assured that the state government would continue implementing prudent financial strategies to guarantee timely settlement of pension obligations while safeguarding the viability of the system.
