Sokoto SSG’s daughter, children, maid die in house fire

A fire outbreak has claimed the lives of Rabi’atu Sifawa, the daughter of the Secretary to the Sokoto State Government (SSG), Bello Sifawa, along with her three children and a house help.

Abubakar Bawa, the Chief Press Secretary to Sokoto State Governor Ahmed Aliyu, confirmed the incident via a statement on Monday, January 6, 2025.

Bawa disclosed that the inferno occurred at the family’s residence at about 3 a.m. on Monday.

“The victims of the unfortunate incident include Rabi’atu Sifawa and her three children – Fatimatu, Maryam, and Abubakar – as well as their house help, Aishatu Muhammad,” Bawa stated.

He said funeral prayers were held at Sifawa in Bodinga Local Government Area of Sokoto State on Monday.

The governor’s CPS added: “Dignitaries in attendance included the Minister of Labour and Employment, Maigari Dingyadi; Sokoto State Deputy Governor, Idris Gobir; and Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Tukur Bala.

“Other notable attendees were representatives of Senator Aliyu Wamakko, the state Chief Judge, the state Grand Khadi, members of the State Executive Council, and legislators.”

Bawa extended condolences to the family and prayed for “Allah’s mercy on the departed and for strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss.”
